His characters are still drawn in the Dan DeCarlo style but he's nudging the style forward quite a bit. Telling the story from Archie's point of view would have been a slam dunk but Dan Parent went the extra mile and told it from Valerie's, making for a far better story.ĭan Parent doesn't get enough credit for his art chops. One of the things I loved about this is that it focused on Valerie instead of Archie, the obvious moneymaker of Archie comics. Bands break up, new members join bands, kids are born, etc. In a Marvel What If style tale, Valerie and Archie start dating and events ripple out from there. This is the best classic style Archie book I've read in forever.
With Dan Parent art plus Josie and the Pussycats, how could I lose? Since I'm a huge sucker whenever the Archie website has a sale, I snapped this up. When Archie Andrews starts dating Valerie of Josie and the Pussycats, what will happen to their respective bands, not to mention their lives?
